Grameenphone Ltd., incorporated on October 10, 1996, is the largest mobile telecommunications operator in Bangladesh. After transitioning to a public limited company on June 25, 2007, it began trading on the Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges from November 16, 2009. The company's major shareholders are Telenor Mobile Communications AS (55.80%) and Grameen Telecom (34.20%), with the remaining 10.00% held by the general public and other institutions. As a leading provider of telecommunications services, Grameenphone operates a digital mobile network based on the GSM standard across the 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, and 2100 MHz frequency bands. The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has granted the necessary licenses for its operations. Grameenphone's financial strength is evident as it holds the top position in Bangladesh's telecommunications industry in terms of revenue, coverage, and subscriber base.
